It is completely true what they say: everything in Texas is just BIGGER. Huge trucks, loads of BBQ places, dancehalls, cowboy hats and boots!

What we think you NEED to know

Rent a car and make your visit into a roadtrip. Texas is a really big state, and driving across the state with stops in multiple cities and areas gives you a better understanding of it’s diversity.
Motels are a great and cheaper accommodation option. It is almost always possible to find a motel with room, they are nicer than depicted in movies, and often the price includes breakfast.
Pretty sure all Texans will judge you, if you visit without experiencing live music and some of their world famous Texan style BBQ (especially their Texan smoked brisket is a must try).
It is not allowed to drink alcohol outside in public areas in this state, and as everywhere else in the US you must be 21 years old to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages.

Our key moments

Our time in Fort Worth Stockyards. Seeing locals wearing the coolest cowboy hats and boots (children too). Listening to live country music, feeling the vibe, meeting the most polite people.
Enjoying the atmosphere and delicious beers meanwhile Texans in all ages and genders were Two-Stepping at different Honky Tonks while amazing live musicians were playing their best.
Watching a real NFL game between Dallas Cowboys and the Buccaneers. Both pre-game and the actual game was dope!
Driving in the countryside, experiencing the more desert-like and other sides of TX. Coming across small towns and ranches.

Motels in Texas:

It is often possible to book a motel fairly close to attractions, BBQ places, restaurants, dancehalls, Honky Tonks, etc.

Due to traffic, it can be nice to have the opportunity of walking around a bit too. Also if you, like us, fancy a beer once in a while.

Some motels are trashy, just a hostels or hotels in other countries. But most really nice and clean. And they often offer som decent or even tasty breakfast too.

This will be NICE to know

There is so much to see and do in everywhere in TX, so we recommend doing some research beforehand and plan your trip a bit.
If the sign or menucard says that the pancakes are bigger than human heads. They seriously ARE BIGGER than human heads. Damn.
Makes sure to notice and appreciate the impressive and awesome street art found in more or less every city or even small towns!
BBQ places are popular among both locals and tourists. Many are fully booked days in advance, people line-up early, and closed certain days.
Cities such as Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston are large. Expect there to be a lot of traffic in rush hours (even with +8 lanes).

Our favorite locations

Fort Worth Stockyards by far is our favorite. Offering the ultimate combination of everything making Texas, well Texas. A must visit!
A small town, Wimberley, on the countryside. Across the entire town you can chase +50 boots in an art project called “Bootiful Wimberley”.
White Horse, Honky Tonk, in Austin. The perfect place to experience a true Honky Tonk, Two-Stepping, live music, and have a good time.


