Vanlife in New Zealand officially begins! 🚐🇳🇿 After weeks of turning our old Toyota Hiace into a home, we finally finish the last renovations, pack everything up and leave Auckland for the first time. Our first stop is Gulf Harbour, where we quickly learn one of the most important lessons of vanlife: always check if you actually have gas for your stove. The next morning, we wake up to the most incredible ocean view right outside our back window. We explore Shakespear Regional Park, spot some beautiful New Zealand birds, discover Gully Waterfall and enjoy a beer at Pier Z — before Benjamin spots something incredible in the water: STINGRAYS! Over the next few days, we start settling into our new life. We go for morning walks, drink coffee with an ocean view, Ditte tries her first New Zealand meat pie and we finally give you a proper tour of **Hygge**, our new home on four wheels. We also share our rough plan for travelling around New Zealand, with the goal of exploring the North Island for around a month before eventually heading south. If you know somewhere we absolutely shouldn't miss, let us know! And of course, vanlife means more projects. After another trip to Bunnings, Benjamin installs our new electrical water pump — and it actually works! Meanwhile, our solar panel continues to cause us problems... We're still figuring everything out, but this is officially the beginning of our new life on the road. No fixed home. No strict itinerary. Vanlife Officially Begins! We Finally Leave Auckland | Vanlife In New Zealand
It's finally ours — and now we can start building our home on four wheels. 🚐🇳🇿 After months of travelling, changing plans and trying to figure out what comes next, we finally have the home that will take us through our next year in New Zealand during our Working Holiday. In this vlog, Benjamin flies from Auckland to Gisborne to pick up our new campervan — and the excitement of finally seeing it in person and realizing that this is actually going to be our home is very real. The next day, the van transformation begins! We head to Kmart, IKEA and Bunnings to stock up on everything from kitchenware and pillows to building supplies and all the little things we need to turn this van into OUR home. Also making sure to get memories of the van exactly as we bought it before beginning to change and renovate it. Then the fun begins! We start by tearing the kitchen apart. Over the next couple of days, we pull things out, paint, drill, saw and slowly start turning the van into something that actually feels like ours. There's plenty of DIY chaos, music, laughter and even a very well-deserved McDonald's lunch break. Despite of continuous rain and us both feeling a little under the weather, probably due to experiencing Winter for the first time in 2026, we still manage to get a lot done. It's messy, it's far from perfect, and we have a lot left to do. But for the first time, we're not just living at someone else's place or travelling through — we're building our home here. And this is only the beginning. We Bought a Campervan in New Zealand! | Vanlife In New Zealand
We finally made it to New Zealand. 🇳🇿 After months of travelling, hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and constantly changing our plans, we're starting a completely new chapter — and this time, we're hoping to build a life on the road in a campervan. We arrive in Auckland and settle into a beautiful little studio in Point Chevalier, with blue skies, sunshine and an incredible view over the water. As we begin exploring our new surroundings, we're introduced to some of New Zealand's incredibly colorful native birds and get our first taste of the country's unique culture. But starting a new life abroad isn't all beautiful views and exciting adventures. We're dealing with a few unexpected challenges, from getting scammed for more than $500 and struggling to set up a bank account, to being far away from family during a difficult time. For Ditte, it becomes the first real moment where the downsides of living abroad hit home. At the same time, we're already searching for our future home on wheels — and eventually make an offer on one. It's a week of beautiful moments, difficult moments, new experiences and a lot of uncertainty. But we're here. We thought we knew what the next few months would look like. After finishing the PCT, our plan was to spend a couple of months in Phoenix, prepare for New Zealand and finally slow down a little. Instead, within just a week, almost everything changed. In this vlog, we arrive in Phoenix and get another reminder of how incredible the PCT community is, well people in general. After a random act of kindness from Austin, we spend a weekend with our trail friend Disco (Marvin) and his wife Julie. Their hospitality is a perfect example of the friendships we found on the trail, and we're incredibly grateful for everything they did for us. We then unpack the backpacks and duffel bags we've been living out of for just about eight months, settle into life in Phoenix, go grocery shopping in a golf cart, work on our content and enjoy a dramatic Arizona thunderstorm. But our plans don't go quite as expected. After only a week and a half in Phoenix, we decide to leave the US earlier than planned. Lets just say life has been more chaotic and stressful than we hoped lately. Since flying through Fiji was cheaper on our way to New Zealand, we decide to take the chance and head there. Two days later, we're changing plans again. Heavy rain, wind and thunderstorms are forecast for Fiji, and travelling there is more expensive than we'd hoped. So we're finally heading to New Zealand — where we hope to find a campervan and begin the next chapter of our adventure. 🇳🇿 This isn't a full-time vacation. This is our life. And sometimes building a life abroad means plans change, things get messy and you simply have to figure it out as you go. We Went From Phoenix to Fiji to New Zealand | Our Life Abroad
After leaving the Pacific Crest Trail, we're slowly figuring out what comes next. And while we thought we might be done with hiking for a while, a few days exploring the American Southwest remind us why we fell in love with it in the first place. In this vlog, we wake up at 5:30 AM to catch sunrise in Death Valley National Park, explore the Mesquite Sand Dunes, walk across Badwater Basin and visit Devils Golf Course. Then things get seriously hot as we break our temperature record at 120°F (49°C) — before saying goodbye to Death Valley with a little humor referencing our PCT trail names Desert King & Blister Queen. From there, we follow Historic Route 66 through Oatman and Kingman before spending a few days in one of our favorite places: Sedona, Arizona. We hike through its incredible red rock landscape, enjoy being outdoors again and, as usual, have plenty of fun along the way. We're still travelling without most of our belongings, living out of our PCT gear and thrift-store clothes, but somehow that doesn't matter much. We're happy. We're laughing. And we're finally enjoying hiking again — without the miles, the pressure or the need to get somewhere. We don't really miss the trail. We miss the people. 120°F in Death Valley & Hiking Sedona | Our Life Abroad
We didn't really plan on having a road trip. But after leaving the Pacific Crest Trail, suddenly we had time — and no real idea what came next. So we decided to get in a car and explore. In this vlog, we travel through Nevada and Utah, discovering some incredible landscapes, quirky roadside attractions and places we never would have planned a trip around. We start at Valley of Fire State Park, where temperatures reach a brutal 114°F, before taking things a little slower in Mesquite. From there, we explore Snow Canyon State Park, which quickly becomes one of our favorite places of the entire trip, spend some time around St. George and visit Kolob Canyons in Zion National Park. Then the road trip gets a little more unusual. We visit Red Cliffs Conservation Area and Cathedral Gorge State Park, drive along the Extraterrestrial Highway, stop for some Area 51 weirdness, visit the Clown Motel in Tonopah and explore the International Car Forest near Goldfield. And throughout it all, we're simply enjoying being on the road again. No big hiking goal. No miles to hit. No schedule to follow. Just beautiful places, cheap food, homemade sandwiches, long drives, ridiculous heat, lots of laughter — and finally some time to figure out what comes next. Our Unexpected Road Trip Through Nevada & Utah | Our Life Abroad
We’re Ditte and Benjamin, a married couple from Denmark who left our conventional life behind to build a life abroad and explore the world. After years of dreaming about living abroad, we quit our jobs, sold almost everything we owned, and set off on a journey of global exploration — discovering new places while figuring out what kind of life feels like ours. Since then, we’ve lived in Costa Rica, hiked 900 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, road-tripped through the U.S., and continued exploring what life abroad could look like for us. This is Chasing Endless Horizons | Join the Adventure
After hiking more than 900 miles (1,450 km) on the Pacific Crest Trail, we've made one of the hardest decisions of our journey... In this video, we explain why we've decided to end our PCT thru-hike. This wasn't a decision we made overnight. We'd been questioning whether thru-hiking was truly for us for weeks, while doing everything we could to make it work. We kept hiking because we wanted to be absolutely sure before walking away. And despite deciding to leave the trail, we're incredibly proud of what we accomplished. The Pacific Crest Trail gave us unforgettable landscapes, amazing friendships, countless acts of kindness, and memories we'll carry with us forever. To everyone who supported us—our family, friends, fellow hikers, trail angels, and everyone following along here on YouTube and Instagram—thank you. Your encouragement meant far more than you know. After leaving the trail, we headed to Las Vegas to step away from thru-hiking completely and give ourselves the space to process everything. Instead of making another big decision immediately, we spent a few days exploring the city, laughing, relaxing, and slowly figuring out what comes next. A work in progress, nonetheless: let vanlife begin! 🚐We've officially bought and renovated our home for the next year — and we're about to start exploring New Zealand from four wheels. 🇳🇿Wanna see how we've rebuilt it? Check out our newest vlog on YouTube, you can find the link in bio. We'll be living, travelling, cooking, sleeping and waking up in this little van while making our way around the country for about a year.We have a rough idea of where we'd like to go, but we're leaving plenty of room for spontaneous detours, places we didn't know existed, and plans that inevitably change along the way. 🗺️Mountains, beaches, lakes, glaciers, volcanoes, hikes, wildlife, tiny campsites, big road trips... and figuring out how to make a campervan feel like home. 🤍And yes, we'll be working along the way too. From the US to Fiji to New Zealand... 🌏✈️Phew. Quite the journey we've been on lately.This definitely wasn't the plan. We were supposed to stay in the US a little longer and arrive in New Zealand about two months from now. But plans change, and sometimes you just have to roll with it. 🫣We decided to leave the US earlier than expected, and flying to Fiji first happened to be the cheapest option. So we figured we'd take the opportunity to explore somewhere new along the way.Well... that didn't quite happen. 😅Heavy rain and thunderstorms weren't exactly inviting for the adventures we'd had in mind, and prices were higher than we'd expected.So after more than three months of constantly moving, we decided it was time to slow down.
