CEH – The most personal, crazy thing we’ve ever done

Chasing Endless Horizons is much more than just a travel blog, brand or attempt to make it as influencers. Nor is it just about traveling full-time and the whole living abroad thing, having no fixed location but the entire world as our “home”. Or about working both as digital nomads on this project while also working in the “real” world with all sorts of stuff (probably anything but our official professions as psychologist and marketing manager). This project literally is who we are and how we live our lives in all terms you can think of! 

But before going into more details about that, we first have to let you in on the very beginning of it all. We went on our first trip together to Creete in Greece not long after meeting each other in 2021. Shortly after that Our Travels (Danish: Vores Rejser) was born and we made a rather cool website called voresrejser.dk (not comparable or awesome to the extent of this one though). The initial idea was to share our many travels and experiences, while inspiring and passing on insight to others about how we managed to travel and experience so much, with such little planning and economical cost. Truth be told, we are pretty damn good at traveling cheap, while not having to plan months ahead and experiencing more than most on our journeys.

These are some not exactly good pictures from our first two trips together to Crete in Greece and Trapani, Sicily in Italy. Poor quality, but damn we look young and innocent and what a great time we had. Fun fact: Benjamin found the flights from Denmark to Trapani (roundtrip from Friday morning to Monday morning) for only 7,50 EUR/ 8,7 USD per person. No kidding. He found them only a few days before, so it would be fair to call it a spontaneous trip.

Breaking loose from “The Box”
As projects such as Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and PCT & Thru-Hiking came along, we started to realize that maybe it was time to start planning for something even bigger. Right from the beginning of our relationship we have agreed that we wanted to live elsewhere than Denmark. That desire stems from many different things such as encountering different cultures, nature and wildlife in the world surrounding us. A big part of it also comes from a deeply inherent desire to live our way of life and break out of what we call “The Box”. “The Box” for us is having the same daily routine, working 5 days a week from 8 am to 4 pm, saving up to buy an expensive big house, getting kids, advancing our careers, biggering about rising supermarket prices and following the path expected by the society around us. Absolutely none of that is what we desire. We don’t want daily routines, having each day looking like the other, feeling locked into an expensive home purchase, having children (not now, not ever), following secure and expected career choices or anything like it. 

We find our truly favorite moments when going beyond the ordinary and going all in on chasing our dreams. Like jumping out of a perfectly good airplane many times together. Celebrating Christmas Eve out in the middle of nowhere in a jungle in India with the local chief making us a special dinner to eat served at his finest plastic table and chairs. Completing a 60 km ultra marathon with little to no training due to a traffic accident and surgery. Or throwing the most perfect and funniest tropical themed wedding because we are too poor to invite friends and family to a destination wedding. 

Choosing your own path is exactly what can get you the most unique and memorable experiences – just like we’ll never forget our local guide Hasan and how he invited us home to eat lunch with his children at their temporary place while telling us about their current living conditions after the big earthquake in Imlil, Morocco the year before in 2023 that tore their house completely apart. Moments like these make a real impact in your life, and emphasize how much there is to be grateful for.

The most insane and fantastic decision
We are going full throttle and putting every penny we own on the dream of making Chasing Endless Horizons become a reality. We fully acknowledge that we might sound completely and utterly crazy to some. But being true to ourselves, we have to admit that to live our lives to the fullest and make ourselves sincerely happy, we have to go beyond the path. So, this project started to become and grow alongside us, while we were trying to figure out exactly how to chase our dreams and way of living. For example where to start (to figure out Visa, vaccines, flight booking, cheap accommodation, some kind of work etc.), with what in our backpacks (we can of course only bring the essential, since we need to be able to carry it easily between places and country to country) and how much in savings (both how much we desired to save up and how little would be able to go ahead with). That also meant figuring out how and when to leave our “old” way of living behind before December 31, 2025. Meaning quitting our jobs, apartment, selling our car, selling or giving away all our belongings – really getting rid of everything we own and cutting all practical ties to Denmark (which actually required a good amount of planning). Summed up, doing everything necessary to be able to be our most true selves and live the life we have been longing for.

In short, one part of our vision and dream with CEH, is to share our own personal, unpredictable and vulnerable journey, as we take all the steps towards making our way of life a reality and living it. None of us know anyone who has ever done anything remotely like this, and no surprise that we haven’t been able to find any recipes or insurances that we will succeed in our pursuit thereof. 

Therefore, this is by far the most personal, unpredictable, insane, vulnerable, exciting, fantastic and crazy thing we have ever done! And we love every part of it thus far – even the tough and tearful ones.

In Our Personal Experiences we’ll be letting you all in on a deeper level sharing our personal experiences, thoughts and feelings with everything it entails.

To clarify it further just in case, it means that we won’t be filtering out the not so pretty parts, moments that simply suck or when it all becomes a bit too overwhelming or difficult. We really want to share the REAL experience of living our way of life. Although we do expect the happy, funny, cool, inspiring, surreal and awesome parts to be the clear majority. If not, it would be kinda silly to go for it and do all this, wouldn’t it?

Risking everything and putting ourselves out there for a higher goal

Vision and dream to inspire and help others
The other part of our vision and dream with CEH, the both short and long-time goal, is to create a community over time of fellow and somewhat like-minded people (you guys) who want to tag along and be part of the journey we embark upon ourselves. Chasing Endless Horizons is just as much for you as it is for us. We hope with everything in us that we can inspire others to find their way of life, do things that make you feel more full and happy. It does not in any way have to mean doing anything as extreme or comprehensive as us – no, because what it entails for you might not be the same as it entails for us. The important part for us is to bring awareness to the fact that you can live your life differently and achieve the things you dream of, if you want to. It is possible to choose your own path, wondering what will make you feel happy and living your life to the fullest – and then go for it. Although as is the case with everything else in life, it will most likely take some sacrificing, prioritizing or hard work to get there and do so. Maybe it won’t. But we are pretty sure it will be worth it no matter what.

Making our aspirations and project come true
We are putting ourselves out there to help you along the way, in any way we possibly can. No matter if your dream adventure is a solo hiking trip to Sweden with your dog, getting another job, moving to another country, finding the love of your life, traveling to a far away continent or getting a diving certificate to explore an unknown world.

The pictures to the left are from some of the dreams we have achieved along the way thus far. You can’t see it from the pictures, but they have all been a product of tons of time and hard work, costing us blood, sweat and tears. We absolutely did everything possible, to make all of our dreams possible. Just as we’ll do everything in our power to make our biggest dream of all – CEH – come true. Even though it means risking everything and living our most vulnerable life yet. We are here to share our experiences, journeys, knowledge and advice however we can.
