Frequently Asked Questions
We get asked a lot of questions, which we love. Find our answers to the most frequently asked! What is Chasing Endless Horizons?
Chasing Endless Horizons (CEH) is our shared project – created by Ditte & Benjamin (aka DEP & BEP) – founded officially in 2025.
For us, CEH is more than just another travel project; it’s our way of life. It’s about giving life everything we’ve got to truly live – doing all the big and small things we’ve always dreamed of, and embracing everything along the way that feels meaningful and exciting.
Our journey began when we sold everything we owned, quit our jobs, moved out of our apartment, and left Denmark behind – with no plans of returning. We set out to live a life driven by purpose, courage, passion, and freedom. A life filled with new cultures, deep human connections, encounters with the wild, natural world and stories worth sharing.
Through CEH, we hope to inspire others to chase their version of endless horizons. It doesn’t have to look like ours – maybe it’s asking out that person you’ve been thinking about for months, visiting that remote island you saw once on TikTok, or finally going to Africa to see the wildlife you grew up watching on National Geographic.
Whatever it is – go do the thing that makes you feel alive and happy.
We have written a whole lot more about what Chasing Endless Horizons is, how it started, what we have done and we go into much more detail on our project page. See Chasing Endless Horizons for more details.
Why did you choose the name Chasing Endless Horizons?
We chose the name Chasing Endless Horizons because it perfectly captures what this project is and what our life together is all about. Chasing Endless Horizons is so much more than a name to us, it’s a mindset – it’s our way of wanting to live life.
Chasing represents the drive to explore – the constant curiosity to follow what truly excites us. It’s about wanting to keep moving, to meet new people, to try new things, and to keep learning from the world. For us, it’s about personal growth – both as individuals and as a couple – and about never standing still when there’s more to discover.
Endless reflects our belief that opportunities in life are truly limitless. We’ll never be able to experience everything we dream of – our list will always be endless. But that’s exactly what excites us: knowing that there will always be more to see, more to feel, and more to learn, for as long as we choose to keep exploring.
Horizons symbolize both endings and new beginnings. It’s where the sun sets, and where it rises again. To us, it represents freedom, discovery, and the beautiful uncertainty of what lies ahead – just beyond the next hill, the next turn, the next horizon. It’s both thrilling and, at times, a little terrifying – and that’s exactly what makes it worth chasing.
Chasing Endless Horizons is exactly what we want to do. We want to continue to chase endless horizons. We never want to be done wanting to explore the world, the local areas, the cultures and much more. To us the name represented everything we wanted, breaking loose from “The Box” not being stuck in the “hamster wheel”. Together, Chasing Endless Horizons reflects our commitment to each other to live life fully — creating, exploring, connecting with people and places, and sharing stories that inspire others to do the same.
We’ve shared much more about what Chasing Endless Horizons truly is – how it all began, what we’ve done so far, and the story behind our journey. You can dive deeper into our project and read the full story on our Chasing Endless Horizons project page. And on our About Us page we also share much more about why CEH makes so much sense to us.
Who are the people behind Chasing Endless Horizons?
The two people behind CEH are us, Ditte & Benjamin, a married couple that has been together since the summer of 2021. We are both born and raised in Denmark and ever since the day we met we haven’t stopped talking about traveling.
We met in the skydiving community where Benjamin was an instructor and DItte was the new student. We quickly shared our hopes and dreams for the future, and although they didn’t align 100%, we rather quickly became very close and fast forwarding to August 10, 2024 we got married and decided that the only right thing to do was to have a tropical themed wedding party.
You can learn much more about who we are on our About Us page. Here you can also learn what saying we frequently tell each other and what that means to us.
What is thru-hiking?
Thru-hiking is the act of completing an established long-distance hiking trail from start to finish, continuously in a single attempt and typically in one season – all done without significant interruptions. Hikers carry their own supplies and equipment while every 4-10 days going to nearby towns to resupply.
Thru-hiking is a long term commitment which often lasts for several months resulting in a temporary pause in the everyday life of a thru-hiker.
A few examples of well-known thru-hiking trails include the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) – which we’ll be attempting in 2026 (read more) – the Appalachian Trail (AT) and the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) in the United States, as well as Te Araroa in New Zealand, the Camino de Santiago in Spain, and several other iconic trails across Europe.
What is the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), and why are you hiking it?
The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is a 2,650-mile (4,265 km) hiking trail that begins at the Mexican border in Southern California and stretches all the way to the Canadian border in Northern Washington.
The PCT attracts a wide range of hikers – from thru-hikers attempting the entire trail in one continuous journey, to long-distance hikers covering more than 500 miles, and section hikers who explore shorter parts of the trail over several trips or years.
In 2026, we’re attempting to thru-hike the entire PCT – to push our boundaries and discover how far our minds and bodies can take us. There isn’t one single big reason why; it’s more about slowing down, stepping away from the busy lives we had, and doing things at our own pace. We want to meet like-minded people, experience some of the most diverse and fascinating nature in the world, and immerse ourselves in everything from the vast deserts to the cold mountain peaks.
We’ve created a dedicated page about our PCT thru-hike project, where you can read more about the trail itself, our motivations, preparation process, and everything leading up to this life-changing adventure. If you wish to know more about the PCT and the organisation and volunteers that make this thru-hike possible, you can read much more about it on www.PCTA.org.
What is Workaway, and why are you doing it?
Workaway is a form of exchange. Workaway is actually a specific platform which we have also used to get in contact with other travelers and hosts offering free accommodation and often meals in exchange for help with various tasks – such as farming, teaching, building, childcare or other ambler and larger projects. It’s a form of cultural exchange where you help out a few hours a day and gain local experiences in exchange.
We are doing Workaway in Costa Rica because it was the perfect opportunity for a different way of experiencing the country – especially the locals, culture, and incredible biodiversity. It is a way for us to travel the country on a lower budget while getting so many other and different experiences than we would have gotten by traveling the country like a typical tourist.
We have written an entire page about Workaway in Costa Rica where you can learn even more about what it is and why we are doing it. You can find your own Workaway by checking out workaway.info.
How do you balance traveling and working?
For us, it’s all about intention and rhythm rather than strict routines. We plan our travels with time and space to work creatively — whether that’s editing photos, writing, or creating videos. Some days are pure adventure, others are focused workdays. We’ve learned to adapt to our surroundings, use what we have, and find balance in that flexibility. Sometimes it’s the weather deciding what day it is, other times it can be the necessity to finish a blot post or a video. The key for us is to truly stay passionate about both traveling and working. We are all about exploring the world and building something meaningful along the way, and if what we do at some point doesn’t feel right, we’ll change our plans and find something that once again feels right.
What is a Working Holiday Visa?
A Working Holiday Visa is a special type of visa available in certain countries that allows you to travel and work for an extended period – typically between 6 and 12 months. These visas are usually part of reciprocal agreements between two countries and are designed for people who want to explore a country while supporting their travels through temporary work. They also offer a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the local community and culture.
Eligibility requirements vary depending on your country of origin and the destination, but most working holiday visas are available to people under the age of 31.
Some of the countries offering working holiday visas (depending on your nationality) include Australia, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Denmark, and New Zealand. New Zealand is the country we are aiming for in 2027. You can read more about our plans and preparations on our Working Holiday in New Zealand page.
