What we think you NEED to know

Always rent a car. Most Greek islands are quite small, and you can often easily drive around the entire island in only a few hours. Driving yourself makes it easier to explore everything you want.
Greek cuisine is absolutely delicious. We recommend to order a mixed platte, and if you do see a place looking less modern, more cozy and filled with locals, then that is your spot.
Small islands has pros and cons. Pro: you can see a lot, con: so can everyone else. Go really early or close to sunset to avoid other tourists. Otherwise you’ll have to share the view with a lot.
The climate all around the world is changing, and Greece is no exception. Locals have noticed that the best time to visit (more dry and hot) has moved from June-August to July-September.

Our key moments

Finding a restaurant, just a described, on Crete, where we met this young chef who made us his own specialties, drank loads of raki, and had the best mixed Greek platte ever.
Stumbling upon Porto Vromi Beach on Zakynthos. A very small but absolutely stunning beach that we had more or less to ourselves even though it was high season.
Running on Rhodes. So much beautiful nature to see and if able to carry your snorkle gear with you, feels amazing to go snorkle in the midst of a hot, sweaty run.

Driving in Greece:

In general it is easy to drive, and the roads are in fairly good shape.

It will without a doubt be an advantage to rent a small, automatic car.

The roads are in general narrow. But there is a lot of driving on mountain roads/cliff roads that can be VERY narrow.

A small car is also nice to have when needing to park or avoid scratches and dents.

This will be NICE to know

Greece is not as cheap as it used to be. Prices has risen almost everywhere, and Greek prices are now more simiilar to central Europe.
Want to save some money and avoid other tourist? Gamble a bit and book a trip in October instead. Weather can be great, warm. Note: can.
If familiar with the more “snacky-hunger” when laying on a sunbed doing absolutely nothing. Flat bread, tzatziki and a Mythos is the best.
It hopefully dosen’t come as a surprise, but the water will of course be more turquoise blue and the cliffs whiter when there is full sun.
Greece is a very popular tourist attraction. Therefore, there continuously comes more and more tourists shops, bars, tours, traps.

Our favorite locations

Porto Vromi Beach on Zakynthos. It is this incredibly beautiful, relaxing, small beach. Surprinsigly not touristed at all.
Blue Lagoon on Crete is such a cool place to explore, and the driving there really nice as well.
Mizithres Rocks on Zakynthos. The view in itself is astounding. The place surrounding the viewpoints was really nice, with a cozy café.



This Quick Guide is just a glimpse of Greece. We have only visited the islands Zakynthos, Crete, and Rhodes. Although, we have no doubt that mainland and other islands are worth a visit too!
