Quick Guide: Turkey

Whatever “rimes” with all-inclusive vacations – Turkey, or at least Alanya, is all of that plus some extra. Either you love it or you hate it.

What we think you NEED to know

There is tourist shops everywhere in every direction. All are selling all the same fake versions and copies of known brands, like “Adidas” clothes or “Louis Vuitton” bags. Still way too overpriced.
If having a fairly cheap drink and smoking some hookah, shisha, or waterpipe – whatever you may call it – is on your activity list, there are many places do to so in Alanya.
Do you fancy a rather festive atmosphere, with club vibes, loud dance music. Just in general a lot of things going on. Then Alanya is a really good place to be. It seems like a good place to go out.
Turkey is pretty known for their kebab and shawarma, or at least in Denmark, so make sure to try out some form of kebab and shawarma . It will most likely be delicious!

Our key moments

Strolling around close to the coast and viewpoint near Alanya Castle. Randomly choosing to walk down a narrow, dirt road and ending up finding a really beautiful viewpoint to the left side and above Kleopatra Beach. Nice sunset!
Exploring some of the nature outside of Alanya city, like for example Sapadere Canyon.
Relaxing, swimming and enjoying “free” beer at our all- inclusive hotel. Yes, we found an extremely cheap trip with direct flights both ways, hotel and all-inclusive for only 200 EUR/235 USD per person in August (high season).

Sellers in Turkey:

Sellers will be yelling to you when walking by, sometimes walking beside you, trying to lure you in to their shop to buy stuff.

A very common thing is that they’ll most likely ask where you are from. This to say something in your language. Some find it charming, we find it truly annoying.

Sellers will do almost anything to “charm” you in to buying their fake items.

This will be NICE to know

Wanting to get to experience the “real” Turkey, going to big cities like Alanya probably isn’t the best way. There is almost nothing but tourist-bars and -restaurants. Being e.g. Danish themed due to a lot of Danish tourists.
If you want to do some shopping, it is possible to fart about the price (Danish saying for barging or negotiate about the price), and get a lower price. Although you do have to be rather persistent in doing so.
Where there is party, unfortunately there is often also drugs nowadays. Make sure to keep an eye on your drink and be careful!

Our favorite locations

The unofficial viewpoint above Kleopatra Beach. Amazing to have this place and view all to ourselves, enjoying a sunset in peace and quite.
The pool area at the hotel, mainly because we had access to free beer, other beverages, food and snacks. Plus there where no sellers.
Sapadere Canyon. The scenery are pretty nice and so is the waterfall.



This Quick Guide is just a glimpse of Turkey. We’ve only been in the very touristed city of Alanya which wasn’t really for us. Maybe it or somewhere else in Turkey will be just perfect for you.
