Day 2: First encounter

DAY 2 / Costa Rica

After arriving safe and sound from the, to our surprise, very easy and comfortable bus ride, we were able to do a quick early check-in at Hostel Manuel Antonio without any surcharge, which was very much appreciated! The first thing that hit us getting of the bus was the sauna hot and extremely humid air. Neither of us remembers ever feeling so sticky and warm all the way through so quickly.

We had decided to check out one of the popular beaches, Playa Biesanz. Benjamin had read that it was the best snorkeling beach and we also would see animals there and on the way. It was not. Slightly disappointed when we got to the beach after not seeing any animals, we were quickly astonish by the beauty of the beach and the cool vibe. Wow. It was packed but we managed to find a good spot, or so we thought, we quickly had to move back due to the tides. What took us most by surprise was the water temperature – only other times we had been in anything close to this was Albania and Thailand.

Later in the day, after doing some more research online, we found out some other places we’d likely see som animals around sunset. So we set of out to hunt them with our cameras. We went towards Playa Espadilla and in the rainforest behind we saw our first White-faced Monkeys. Super excited and ready for much more we continued on along the beach and suddenly stood looking up in the trees to try and figure out what made that squeaky sound. A Tucan. Our excitement grew and seing that Tucan 7-8 meters up in a tree. The sunlight was coming to an end, so we headed back home and along the way saw and extra 2 Tucans. We shared a celebration beer for a extremely good day.

Day 38-77: Treevana… Wow, just wow

Was our thoughts when we finally arrived at Treevana in Cocles. We met the owners, Lori and Ricky, at a restaurant on the one real road there is here — their treat. Super nice people, and we got an amazing first impression of them (and hopefully the same the other way...
